Job Duties:
Summary
Oversees development of written material for use by the client’s external vendors, including product specifications, assembly instructions, and test procedures for use in the design, manufacturing, and/or repair of the client radios and products. Coordinates with identified the client subject matter experts for source material. Supervises out-sourced technical writers who will turn the client source material into written deliverables; supervision includes scheduling, writer skill set assessment, and estimating hours and staffing needs. Edits written material as required and has final editorial sign-off on all documents delivered to external vendors.
Major Duties:
1. Oversee development of product specifications, assembly instructions, and test procedures for the client radios and products.
2. Coordinate documentation content development with the client subject matter experts to minimize impact on Engineering schedules.
3. Supervise out-sourced technical writers, including:
a. scheduling
b. writer skill set assessment
c. estimating hours and staffing needs
4. Organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
5. Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, and content.
6. Final editorial sign-off on all documents delivered to external vendors.
Job Skills:

Essential:
• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communications or equivalent
• 5+ years relevant experience in document management
• additional 5+ years as a hands-on tech writer/editor
• Excellent writing and editing skills
• Strong people management and team-building skills
• Ability to effectively communicate with other employees, customers, vendors, and out-source representatives
• Must be able to work with others or independently
• Strong orientation towards quality, safety, and continuous improvement
• Established team player qualities
Desirable:
• Experience documenting radio or other wireless communications systems
